Jamila O’Gilvie, CPA
Hello, my name is Jamila and I am the Founder of The Beryl Company.
I know you are here to learn a bit about me so here is my story for your reading pleasure!
After more than 13 years of working in the Finance industry in New York City, I knew it was time to make the decision I had been contemplating for years. I was at a crossroads and my next "logical" step was to become a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at a Hedge Fund. But despite the success that I achieved, every fiber of my being wanted nothing to do with that!
Through an act of radical self-care in 2018, I decided to leave Wall Street. With the dream of living more of the life I imagined, my partner and I made the decision to spend a year living abroad. Eager to take a break from the grind, we chose - Thailand in Asia and Portugal in Europe, and four years later we now call Lisbon, Portugal our home base!
In the summer of 2019, I launched my consultancy, The Beryl Company, which works with small companies and entrepreneurs, providing a range of CFO services to help them grow their businesses, maximize profits, and confidently make financial decisions in alignment with their vision, values, and intuition.
In the work that I do as CFO, money is and remains a critical tool and measure for success. But what I've come to learn is that when we only emphasize money as the sole form of currency, we miss out on other forms of currency. Currencies we possess within ourselves - our inner currencies - which are directly correlated to our well-being, fulfillment, and connectedness.
